PASKEY, WILLIAM J., JR. WATERTOWN William (Bill) Paskey, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at his home with members of his loving family at his side following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Watertown on February 24, 1924 to William and Agnes (Gruel) Paskey. Bill was a 1941 graduate of Watertown High School and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater through the end of World War II, rose to the rank of Sgt. Major and was part of the U.S. military forces that occupied Japan after its surrender. He served his country again during the Korean Conflict. Following his return to the United States, he married Barbara (Glaser) Paskey on Aug. 31, 1946 and went to work on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) where he worked for 40 years as a freight operator before retiring. Bill was an avid golfer and softball player. He also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and playing a wide variety of card games with family and friends. His quick wit, quips and jokes were a constant reminder of his gregarious personality to everyone he knew and met. He was a proud, loyal and unrepentant fan of the Chicago Cubs and "Da Bears," who rarely missed the broadcast on TV or radio of ". . . the only major league teams in the Midwest." Bill was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1946. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his son David Paskey, his daughter Deborah (Randy) Radtke and four grandchildren Ann (Kent) Oberdorf, Jill Woods, Amanda (John) Jerge and Justin Paskey. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and three nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom. A visitation will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, with the service following immediately after at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Rainbow Hospice, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, or the Watertown Humane Society in memory of his many beloved canine companions throughout his life. The Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at svfuneralhome.com. The family would also like to thank Rainbow Hospice and its staff and volunteers for their loving and skilled care of Bill.
