Santos Torres Marinez, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2019, surrounded by his family at the Rainbow Hospice. Santos was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather Santos was born November 14, 1926 in Big Wells, Texas to Julio and Josefa Torres Marines. He had six sisters Rosa White, Otila Rodriquez, Jesusita Dominguez, Maria Soto, Isabel Elizondo and Esperanza Quiroz, and three brothers, Pedro, Rudy, and Juan. His family worked for many years in Big Wells for the George Webb family. Santos served in the US Army during the Korean War and his unit was assigned to Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Santos was united in marriage to Rosa R. Soto on January 6, 1958 in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Together they raised seven children. Santos retired from Brandt Inc. in 1989 and worked for Ingersoll Farms in Sullivan for many years with his wife and children. He was also employed by Loeb Industries after his retirement maintaining the grounds and equipment. Santos enjoyed gardening, telling stories from his youth, and spending time with his family. Still at the age of 90 he would be out maintaining his lawn and garden. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow up. His lessons of generosity, family values will be passed down to many generations. Santos will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Rosa, his children, Blanca Estella (Keith) Kopp, Peter (Leyda), Rose Marie (Mark) Fobes, Miguel, Gloria Ann Trevino, Cecelia Marinez (Steven) Miller, and Santos Elias. He will also be fondly remembered by his 27 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren and his surviving sisters and many nieces and nephews. Santos was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Pedro, Juan and Rudy, and sisters Rosa White, Jesusita Dominguez and Maria Soto. Services will be held at 11:00 AM onFriday, May 31, 2019, at the Schmutzler-Vick funeral home, 500 Welsh Road, Watertown, Wisconsin, 53098. Visitation will be from 9-11 with Pastor Dwayne Morris leading a service following visitation. A celebration of life will be held at the family home from 2-7 on Friday. The family would like to thank Dr. John Basarich and staff, Rainbow Hospice and staff, Nurse Matthew, and Social worker Mindy for the excellent care extended to our father.
