Ruth Surdick

Ruth A. Surdick, 71, Watertown, died peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc.   She was born on May 27, 1946 in Watertown, WI, the daughter of the late Gerhard and Leona (Schultz) Kowalke.   On October 26, 1968 she married Anthony Surdick at St. Henry's Catholic Church.  Together they were blessed with 33 years of marriage until his death on June 16, 2001. Ruth was an LPN for Bethesda, Golden Living, and Marquardt Health Care. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown. Ruth will be remembered for being a patient mother, loving grandmother,  and a heartfelt caregiver.  Survivors include her children, Michael Surdick of Tucson, AZ, Linda Zinda, Catherine "C.J." (Steve Boettcher) Surdick, Margaret "Peggy" (Mark) Hafenstein, all of Watertown, Richard Brandt of Madison, four grandchildren; Anthony and Grace Zinda, Kimberly and Elizabeth Hafenstein, one sister, Helen Bolgrien of Kenosha, WI; other relatives and friends. She was further preceded in death by her brother, Karl Kowalke and brother-in-law, Bernard Bolgrien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017 at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Patrick Wendler as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and also after 10 a.m. on Monday at the church until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc or to the family.
