Richard A. Johns, 86, of Watertown, Wisc., passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013, at University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 11, at 11 am at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Watertown with Monsignor Daniel Ganshert officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 am until the time of the Mass. A private family burial at St. Bernard's Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Bernard's Catholic Church or the Salvation Army would be appreciated. Richard A. Johns was born on November 1, 1926, in Kenosha, Wisc., the son of Vernon and Loretta (Fecht) Johns. After graduating from Waukegan, Ill. High School, Richard enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II in the Philippines. On September 16, 1950, he married the love of his life, Charlotte E. Zamis at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, Ill. After settling in Watertown, Richard worked at General Telephone and Minar Office Supplies. He retired after 35 years of professional sales with Valley School Supply of Appleton, Wisc. Richard was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church where he served on the school board and as an usher. He was a dedicated volunteer and gave back to his community through many activities such as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army and delivering meals to the needy. He was an active member of The Lion's Club, Knights of Columbus and was a former Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O.E. Elks of Watertown. His pastimes included performing with the Watertown Curtain Club, enjoying the outdoors, hunting and fishing with family and friends and playing card games. Richard was a member of the Watertown Country Club where he aced number nine. His artistic talents were shared with family and friends through his unique wood carvings and stained glass work. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. In 2009, Richard and Donald Price travelled together on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington D.C., in recognition of their service to the country they love. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; his daughters Jeanette, Cheryl (Lyle) Grandt, Leigh Ann (Trevor) Price and a son, David (Linda) Johns; grandchildren Colin and Emily Ford of Shorewood, Austin and Charlotte Price of Watertown and Sarah Johns of Watertown; and many nieces and nephews. He leaves many furry "grand pets" that will miss his snacks and treats. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn son Michael Peter; and his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Patrick Ryan. Cemetery: St. Bernard Cemetery, Watertown
