Marjorie “Marge” A. Brummel Schweitzer, 90, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.
Marge was born on Labor Day, September 3, 1934, the first of 6 children, to Edward and Henrietta (Drendel) Herrmann at their family farm in Burlington, Illinois. After graduating from Naperville High School, she attended the National Institute of Banking in Chicago and was employed at the Naperville National Bank until her marriage to Gerald Brummel on October 10, 1953. They farmed on shares in Illinois until 1963 when they purchased a farm they named “The Busy B” in Watertown, WI. They raised their ten children on this dairy farm.
Through the years, Marge waitressed, cleaned houses, was employed by the Northside Oasis, Melcher Farm Equipment, Kohls Department Store, was also employed for 12 years in the Registration Department at the Watertown Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 2002. She was an active member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, delivered Meals on Wheels, worked at the polls, and tutored at Schurz school for the Ready-Set-Read Program.
Marge baked and decorated many of her children’s birthday and wedding cakes. She also enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cards, traveling on bus trips and tours, she was an avid reader and liked writing poetry. She especially cherished family gatherings where she would snuggle the newest baby.
On August 14, 1993, she married Ralph Schweitzer. He predeceased her on April 11, 2014.
Marge is survived by her ten children: David (Sandra) Brummel, Daniel (Julie) Brummel, Howard (Melissa) Brummel, Linda Grimm, Kenneth (Dawn) Brummel, Edward (Sharon) Brummel, James (Kim) Brummel, Joseph (RoAnna) Brummel, Anita Marlett, and Angela Brummel. 26 grandchildren and is great-grandma to 49 great-grandchildren. 6 stepchildren and their families, her 5 siblings and their families, many other family members and friends, especially her very treasured friend Bill Marten. She is further survived by Gerry (Debbie) Bukatz who are considered family.
She was preceded by both husbands, infant granddaughter Alyssa Brummel, sons-in-law Gregg Grimm and Adam Marlett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Watertown, with Fr. Tim Renz presiding. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
