NOON, DR. KATHLEEN R. WATERTOWN/BROOKFIELD Dr. Kathleen R. Noon, age 61, passed away on Saturday morning August 20, 2016 at Marquardt Health Center. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Kathleen Rose Noon was born on August 5, 1955 in Watertown, daughter of Robert and Mary (Byrne) Noon. Kate attended St. Bernard's school and graduated from Watertown High School in 1973. She graduated from Alverno College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. After a short stint as a medical technologist at Saint Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, she continued her education, getting a Master of Science Degree in analytic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. She worked at Eli Lilly in West Lafayette, Indiana as an analytical chemist for several years before enrolling in Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan where she received her Doctorate in Chemistry.. She followed her PhD with a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Utah before returning to Michigan to work in the Mass Spectrophotometer (Spec) lab at the University of Michigan Medical School. She returned to Wisconsin to take the position of Lab Director of the Mass Spec Lab at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she worked until her recent illness. Kate was known for her bright smile and big heart. Her family was the center of her life and she cherished her relationships with her sisters and brother. She was always available to help her friends and family and provide a bright smile or a reassuring hug. Kate's two passions were education and music. She had a firm belief in the power of education, as exhibited by her attainment of her doctorate and her ongoing efforts to grow in her chosen field and contribute to the advancement of the research projects she supported. She mentored many of the graduate students who worked under her or with her and always made time to help them get acclimated and succeed in the academic world. She always enjoyed singing, starting with the Watertown Badger 4H club and continuing through High School and into college. She and her sisters, the "Noon Sisters", sang for weddings in the late 70's and early 80's. Kate loved classical music and opera, enjoying attending concerts with her friends. Most importantly, she was known for the songs and limericks she composed in honor of her parent's, sibling's and friend's milestone birthdays and anniversaries. She had a quick wit and loved to construct a good parody to tweak those who were close to her. Kate is survived by her parents, her siblings - Dr. John (Dr. Mary Pat Henman) Noon of Verona WI, Barbara (Bill Salmon) Noon of Asheville NC, Mary (Jay ) Dietrich of Essex VT, Bernadette (Dave Wallace) Noon of Boulder CO, and Margaret ( Peter) Pavelic of Grafton WI; and her four nephews - Dr. Paul (Dr. Cristina Botero) Dietrich of Chicago IL, Dr. Peter (Dr. Ashley) Dietrich of Milwaukee WI, and Nick and Alex Pavelic of Grafton WI. Kate was preceded in death by her Grandparents Ray and Frances Byrne and Clarence and Nina Noon and her Brother-in-law Terry Borges. The family would like to thank the many people who supported Kate over the past eighteen months, especially those who supported Kate in her home in Milwaukee to help her maintain her independence for a time and the caregivers at Marquardt Health Center, for their care and the kindness that they showed to Kate. A visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Marquardt Chapel in Watertown on Saturday August 27, 2016. Visitation will begin at 10 am and the memorial service will follow at 11 am.
