John E. Gilbertson, 64, of Black River Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Spero Heritage Homes in Watertown with his family by his side. John was a blessing to all who knew him. His faith was simple and childlike. He completely trusted that God would take him to heaven.
John was born on February 4, 1959, in Waukesha, the son of Roy and Beverley (Poppie) Gilbertson. He proudly worked as a truck driver for many years. In his free time he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed working on model trucks. John never lost his sense of humor and enjoyed pulling pranks on his nursing staff and family. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his siblings Shari (Jim) Steinbruner of Oshkosh, Alan Gilbertson of Wausau, Mary (Dan) Supple of Watertown, and sister-in-law Cindy Gilbertson of Tomah. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Steven Gilbertson, and sister Theresa Wegner.
A private family graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Park with Pastor Dave Zimmermann presiding.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Spero Heritage Homes and Rainbow hospice nurses Jody and Jolene for the care and compassion given to John.
“I am going to my happy place.”
