FREIDEL, JEROME J. MARSHALL/WATERLOO Jerome (Jerry) Freidel, 89, died unexpectedly on December 4, 2012 at his home. He was born on June 26, 1923 in the Town of York, Marshall, WI, the son of Frank and Cecelia (Griffin) Freidel. Jerry graduated with the class of 1940 from Marshall High School. He married Dorothy Zandler on October 30, 1943 at Sacred Hearts' Church in Sun Prairie. Jerry farmed in the Town of York for 69 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's of the Nativity Church where he served on the parish council, finance committee, and the St. Mary's Cemetery Association. Jerry was a former Marshall School Board member and was on the York Town Board for many years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Order of Foresters. Jerry was proud of his farm and his dairy cows. He loved to visit with friends and family, often playing sheepshead or euchre. Jerry attended many academic, musical, and sporting events of his children and grandchildren, he was a loyal Marshall Cardinal fan. Jerry had a great love for fishing, summer and winter, and spent many Sundays teaching his grandchildren the joy of the sport. Jerry is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Mary (Dennis) Riley, Kate (Russ) Dahl; son, Greg (Gayle) Freidel; and daughter-in-law, Susan Freidel. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren; Andrea (Troy) Johnson, Kate (Chris) Bennett, Jessie Mueller, Beth (Matthew) Pantzlaff, Tara Freidel, Erin (Brad) Graf, Kiersten (Mike) Kohn, Jane Riley, Kelly (Dan) Howard, Megan (Tim) Schultz, Tim (fiancée Lindsey) Dahl, and Lindsay Freidel. "Grandpa Jer" was much loved by his 16 great-grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his sister, Margaret Thornsen and a sister-in-law, Shirley Mork, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tom, grandson Bryan, great-granddaughter Brynn Graf; his brothers Francis (Lucille) and Cyril; his brothers-in-law Earl Thornsen and Harold (Hazel) Zandler; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth (Harold) Garvey and Margaret (Harry) Carlson. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday December 7, 2012 at 11 AM at Holy Family Parish Marshall (formerly St. Mary's). Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Thursday December 6, 2012 from 4 - 8 PM at the parish center at the church and on Friday after 10 AM in the church. There will be a Rosary at 7:30 PM on Thursday.
