Grace Riege

Sun Prairie/Marshall - Grace Riege, age 101, passed away on September 4, 2015 at the Willows Nursing Home in Sun Prairie. She was born on August 4, 1914 in the Town of Medina near Marshall, the daughter of John H. Knapton and Anna (Ortman) Knapton. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family dating back to 1848 when her grandfather came to Wisconsin and settling in the Town of Medina. Grace was baptized on September 20, 1914 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was confirmed on May 28, 1928. She was a life long member of Holy Trinity. She took an active part in Sunday school for over 35 years. On October 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Albert Riege of Cottage Grove, where she resided on their farm in the Town of Sun Prairie. She did seasonal work for the Oconomowoc Canning Company and the Wisconsin Cheeseman in Sun Prairie for 20 years. Grace loved to sew and garden and she sewed over 200 quilts for World Relief. No children were born to this union, but Grace and Albert opened their home to several foster children and her nieces and nephews during the summer months. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 2013, 16 brothers and sisters, her parents and other relatives and friends. She is survived by one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 605 Madison Street, Marshall WI on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 12PM Noon. A visitation will also take place at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will take place at Kroghville Cemetery in London, WI. Rev. Paul Anderson will officiate.
