George R. Livanec passed away quietly on September 24th, 2018. At age 96 he was ready for anything that came along, even death. He brightened the day of everyone that he encountered, every single day. He was born April 5th, 1922 in Chicago, son of John and Emma (nee Vosyka) Livanec. He graduated from Morton West High School, then served for 3 years in the US Army in North Africa and Italy in WWII. George loved the game of golf, although he lied and called himself a "duffer" at best. He was an excellent amateur baseball player and even was asked to try out for his beloved Cubs. He married Dolores Dombrosky in 1946. They remained married until her death in 1998. He worked for 50 years for Emil Denemark Cadillac, then retired to Watertown to be near his family. His life centered around his family: daughter Janet, who pre-deceased him in 2015, son-in-law Edward, grandchildren Christina, Edward, and Kevin. Then followed great-grandchildren Claire, Eddie, Felicity, Maddie, and Jana. He was also devoted to his special friend Charlotte. He is survived by his son-in-law Edward, grandchildren Christina (Jacob) Davidson, Edward (Kim) Hoy, Kevin (Amanda) Hoy, and 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home & Cremation Service, followed by a prayer service officiated by Reverend Ray Bezanson. A Military Honor Guard will follow the service. Burial will take place in Chapel Gardens West in Oakbrook, IL. at 11 A.M on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the St. Bernard's Chapel fund, where a window is dedicated to his only daughter Jan, or to Marquardt Hospice. Remembrances and condolences may be sent to the family on www.watertownwifuneralhome.com.
