Freida Raether

Freida J. (Zimmerman) Raether, age 89 of Marshall/Sun Prairie, passed away at Prairie Gardens Assisted Living Saturday, February 25, 2017. Freida was born June 19, 1927, the daughter of Richard and Elenora (Starker) Zimmerman in Sun Prairie Township. She was united in marriage to Arnold E. Raether October 19, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Marshall where she has been a member since their marriage. They farmed the family farm for 25 years. Freida worked at Wisconsin Cheeseman in Sun Prairie for 25 years until her retirement in 1993. In 1982 her husband passed away and in 1988, she moved to Sun Prairie. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and going out to eat with friends. She also was a fantastic cook. She is survived by three children Elaine (Maurice) Long of Sun Prairie, Roger (Darlene) Raether of DeForest, and Karen Grunewald of Madison, daughter-in-law Barbara Raether of Marshall, nine grandchildren; Andrew (Danielle) Raether, Michael (Patti) Raether, Brandon Raether (Nichole Miller), Nicholas (Jilianne) Raether, Steven (Melissa) Buss, Michelle (Mike) Nehls, Heather (Dan) Wright, Ryan (Mandy) Raether and Gregory Grunewald, seventeen great grandchildren, sister-in-law Adella Rowaldt, and many other nieces nephews other family and friends and special friend Darlene Strand of Madison. Freida is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, son Donald, son-in-law Terry Buss, six sisters Esther, Adeline, Evelyn, Dora, Leota, and Arlene and three brothers Clarence, Elmer, and Chester. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 3 at 11 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Marshall with Pastor Arthur Faught officiating. Interment will follow at Medina Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 2 from 5 to 8 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church and again from 10 AM until the time of services Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Agrace Hospice Care. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jerry and Suzy Harbort and the caring staff at Prairie Gardens Assisted Living at Sun Prairie, and the many years of exceptional care from Dr. Paul Schmidt and Dr. Danielle Gindlesberger and the Sun Prairie Dean Clinic Staff. Also special thanks to the wonderful staff from Agrace Hospice including Kelly, Lynn, Autumn, and Tina who treated Freida with kindness and dignity during her final days.
