Frederick R. Cornelius, 90, passed away on June 28 at Highland House in Watertown, Wisconsin. Frederick was born in Waukesha on March 5, 1928 to Vernon Frank and Florence Louise (Wiedeman) Cornelius. He served in the Marine Corps from 1946 - 1948. During his service he was a member of the Marine Corps Honor Guard stationed at 8th & I in Washington DC. One of his fondest memories was of escorting an Ambassador's daughter to a Presidential Ball. After his military service he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Virginia Anne Guderyon, on July 2, 1948. Fred began a career as a machinist and built a house in the Town of Summit after work and on weekends. He enjoyed the challenge of fixing things for family and friends and often milled the parts he needed. Fred was also a member of The American Legion Pitterle-Beaudon Post 189 in Watertown. He will be missed by those who knew him. Frederick is survived by his son, Randy (Mary) Cornelius of Hustisford, and daughter, Debi (Dave) Odekirk of Watertown; grandchildren Leigh (Joel) Stuemke of Dripping Springs, TX and Alan Tolstyga of Sussex; and great-granddaughter Cordelia Stuemke, along with many other friends. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his sister Joanne Beauchamp. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. A short memorial service will be held at 2:45 P.M. with the Reverend Robert Koepcke officiating at Schmutzler-Vick Funeral & Cremation Service. A Military Honor Guard presentation will follow.
