On October 18, 2020, Francis Joseph Markl passed peacefully at his home in Watertown.
Francis was born on March 21, 1933 the son of Leona and Frank Markl. He was an Army Veteran and was drafted to serve our country in the Korean War. Francis was known for his light hearted and kind nature, strong work ethics, and impeccable business practices as an owner/operator of Markl’s Body Shop in Watertown, where he was partners with the late William Hardtke. Francis repaired cars as well as sold and repaired bicycles for over 40 years. Francis was a lifelong member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church where he was a member of the Catholic Knights.
Francis is survived by his Daughter Terese Markl, son John Markl, brother Charles Markl, sister Bernadette (Jerome) Franckowiak, and his in-laws Carol Ann Markl, Sandy and James Cahoon, Lisa and Mark Checki, and David Schuchter. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Markl, parents, brothers James and George Markl, sister Mary Cardozo, Sister-in-law Virginia Markl, brother in-law William Cardozo.
Francis will be buried at St. Henry’s Catholic Cemetery, where he will rest peacefully next to his late wife. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
