GERNETZKE, EDWARD C. WATERTOWN With his wife of 59 years at his side, Edward C. Gernetzke, age 80, passed away on Thursday December 30, 2010 at Watertown Regional Medical Center. Edward was born on November 13, 1930 in the Town Of Lowell, the son of Leonard and Leta (Klug) Gernetzke. In 1948, he was one of 13 graduates from Reeseville High School. Ed served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On November 17, 1951 he married Maxine Daniel at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. Ed had been employed by the Dodge County Highway Dept. for 12 years followed by Eaton Corporation for 35 years. He also owned and operated Eds Electronic Repair in Reeseville. In 1961 he was elected Village President of Reeseville and served his community for two terms. He was a 55 year member and former Commander of Reeseville American Legion Post #190, a Dodge County Legion Commander, member and past president of the Reeseville-Lowell Lions Club, a member of the church council at Salem Lutheran Church in Lowell and also a member of the Reeseville Volunteer Fire Dept. Survivors include his wife Maxine, their children Michael Gernetzke of Fort Atkinson, Jim (Susan) Gernetzke of Columbus, OH, Gail (Dean) Henkel of Sun Prairie and John (Mary Ann) Gernetzke of Evansville, grandchildren Sarah, Michael, Brian, Joseph, Thomas, Gregory, Kristin, Tyler, Anica, Christopher, Peter, Matthew, Anne, Mary and Catherine, two great grandsons Christopher and Noah, siblings Hazel Kelnhofer of Milwaukee, Lila Dombrowski of Watertown, Marion LaRocco of Bedford, OH, Donald Gernetzke of Boulder Junction and Robert Gernetzke of Beaver Dam, also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents and siblings Verna Hutto, Raymond Gernetzke, Irma Buss, Harold Gernetzke, and Gladys Gernetzke. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12 PM at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Anthony Schultz officiating. Family burial will be in Reeseville City Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
