Douglas Behling

Douglas LaVerne Behling, age 77, was met with open arms by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Douglas was born to Benj & Eleonore (Stroede) Behling in Watertown and at the age of 3, moved to Lake Mills to be with his grandfather, August Stroede. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, graduated in 1960 from Lake Mills High School. Douglas attended 1 1/2 years at Platteville College and 1 year at Madison Business College. He married Ella M. Mecum in,1962, in Galena, Il. Douglas worked for Wisconsin Bell and AT&T for 19 years before taking early retirement and moved to Watertown. There he purchased a farm and founded DEB Wholesale in 1988. Douglas enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and the serenity of the farm, remodeling his home, buildings and farming the land. He also found joy in building the wholesale business and taking cruises with Ella. His favorite cruise was to Hawaii. Douglas was blessed with 3 children; Russell, Thomas (Stacey) and Tammi (Philip) Haerterich, 8 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a brother, Delos (Ruth) Behling and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, October 26, 2019, with a service following at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Bruce McKenney and Pastor Timothy Nass, officiating.
