Brian Lee Robey, 64 of Reeseville, passed away on May 31, 2023, at his home in Reeseville due to long standing heart issues.
Brian was born October 25, 1958, in Milwaukee, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Stecker) Robey. He attended Waukesha North High School. On September 16, 1978, Brian married Barbara Holloway at North Prairie Lutheran Church. Brian worked various jobs throughout his life, including auto technician for Crest Cadillac and New Berlin Auto Body Care, and an over the road semi-truck driver and mechanic. Above all else, Brian had a life long ambition to farm. He raised chickens, pigs, and polled Herefords. He loved all animals, especially his cats Squirt and Buddy. Brian was a handy man and remodeled much of his current home. He was well known for his wicked wit and sense of humor and had a hearty laugh. Steadfast and pragmatic, Brian was humble, easy going, and quick to offer help to anyone in need. He was courageous in the face of his long-term heart condition, and kept himself busy with his love for woodworking and other projects. In his free time, Brian enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and being on his farm, and nothing suited him better than being on a tractor or taking care of his livestock.
Brian is survived by: his wife of 44 years Barbara of Reeseville; sister Dawn Lovely of Jefferson; and best friend Luke Krause and family. Brian is also survived by a number of other relatives and friends.
Brian is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy A. Robey and his grandparents Albert and Beatrice Stecker.
The family would like to thank the LVAD team and doctors of UW Madison, as well as the many excellent caregivers who helped manage his welfare during his long illness.
A Funeral Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home of Watertown. Brian will be laid to rest at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Alderly following the visitation.
Tis a Fearful Thing
by Yehuda HaLevi (1075 – 1141)
‘Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.
A fearful thing
to love, to hope, to dream, to be –
to be,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this,
And a holy thing,
a holy thing
to love.
For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
‘Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.
