Betty J. Heuer, 89, of Watertown, met her Lord face-to-face on Friday July 19, 2019 at her home at Heritage Homes in Watertown, Wisconsin. Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home & Cremation Service has the honor of serving the family. Betty was born on September 7, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Joe and Elizabeth (McGraw) Ondracek. The family moved to the Ondracek homestead in McLeod County, Minnesota. She graduated from Hutchinson High School and from there she attended nursing school, becoming an LPN. During her duties as a nurse, she met Myron Heuer, who was a patient of hers at that time. Shortly thereafter, she and Myron were married on December 17, 1949 in Wyoming, where Myron worked as a radio announcer. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Thomas, Jeffrey and Cynthia. Myron's career in radio took the family to various places in Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, North Dakota and Nebraska. During that time, Betty worked as a nurse and in retail sales, all while striving to raise their children. Following Myron's retirement from radio, they worked together managing several Motel 6 sites (Idaho, Utah and California) and managing a self-storage unit in California. When both decided to retire for good, they moved to Myron's hometown, Howard Lake, Minnesota. Following Myron's stroke, they made their final move as a couple to Watertown, Wisconsin to be closer to Thomas and his family. Following Myron's death in 1999, Betty moved to Zinzendorf Assisted Living, and then to Heritage Homes, in April of 2011, shortly after that facility opened its doors. She lived there the rest of her life. Lutheran from the time of their marriage, Betty was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ixonia. Regular visits from Pastors Kenneth Ewerdt and Joel Free were greatly appreciated as well as visits from Chaplain Mark Bartsch of Heritage Homes. Betty is survived by her son Thomas (Lillian) of Watertown, daughter Cynthia (Russ) Buhaug of Lake Park, Minnesota, brother Donald (Montine) Ondracek of Watkinsville, Georgia, grandchildren Ryan Heuer of Watertown, Reverend Preston (Trista) Heuer of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Maren Buhaug (special friend Frank Koltes) of Lake Park, Minnesota. Betty was blessed with three great granddaughters: Elianna, Cathryn, and Isabel Heuer, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Myron, son Jeffrey, sister Emily Petersen, brothers Elvis McGraw and Jack Ondracek, along with several in-laws, nieces and nephews. A service celebrating Betty's passage into eternal life will be held at a later date, with her cremains being interred next to Myron's immediately following that service. The family would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to the staff at Heritage Homes and that of Rainbow Hospice for their efforts to make Betty's final months and weeks as comfortable as possible. Memorials can be made to the family and will be divided between Heritage Homes and Rainbow Hospice.
