Bernard Olson, Jr. 83, of Marshall, died on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Sienna Crest in Marshall. He was born on May 21, 1934 in Antigo, WI, the son of the late Bernard Sr. and Rose (Schobert) Olson. Bernie dedicated 20 years of active service to the United States Air Force. He was stationed in several countries including Scotland, Japan, Germany and Turkey. He devoted his life to the American Legion and V.F.W. They were his family for many years. This past year the V.F.W. awarded a Marshall High School student the first annual "Bernie Olson V.F.W. scholarship". He was a member of the Marshall American Legion Post #279; a member of the V.F.W. Past Commanders Club Post #06614 and Military Order of the Cootie member. Survivors include his sister, Karen Meyer of Stanwood, WA, one brother, Raymond (Lynne) of Janesville; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Olson of Sun Prairie, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronald; and one sister, Rosemary Hinz. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Watertown. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home until the time of service. A luncheon will be served following the service. Burial will be in the Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove at a later date. If desired, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice or the Marshall American Legion Post #279.
